Straw Bale Gardening

I put black plastic bags on the straw bales to help accelerate the conditioning process. The twine made it easy, I simply tucked the edges under it.
Straw bales do not usually contain seeds, unfortunately the ones I bought did. You can see in the below picture they began looking like chia pets, it didn't hurt anything, only made the bales look unsightly.

I only planted on the tops of the bales but you can plant along the sides to maximize space.

Don't throw those laundry buckets away!
Rinse them out good, drill a few holes in the bottom, put a layer of gravel in, then fill with soil and plant.
