We are not sure if it was a fox or a coyote who ate our chickens this winter, but some sort of predator took advantage of the times when Hannah didn't close the chicken coop. Which ever it was, fox or coyote, it was well feed.
Only three hens and the rooster are left. Two of which are bantam hens, the other hen is an americana and the rooster is a bantam. They are all that is left out of the many chicks we bought and raised last year. I guess a bumper crop of colorful eggs was not in my future.
I decided to take a chance at the corner store, hoping they might have some chicks that would later produce colored eggs. Amazingly enough they had four ameraucana females and one ameraucana rooster rooster left. Leaving the little rooster behind was an option, but I didn't have to heart to do it.
Now they are in my kitchen where they will spend the next few weeks until they are strong enough to be moved to one of the outside hutches.
