Rusty was feeling out of sorts two weeks ago. Linda helped me give him several doses of penicillin but he seemed to be getting worse instead of better.
So off to the vet we went.
Blood tests and two hundred dollars later we still don't know anything.
The vet first thought he was foundering (laminitis) but the only symptom he had was that he was obviously in pain. After finding no soreness or even heat in Rusty's feet he ruled out founder, then he ordered blood tests, when the results came back he said, "Good news he's healthy!" I was not happy.
He then starts talking to himself and comes to the conclusion that he must have foundered, although I could tell he didn't believe it himself. He sent Rusty and I home with a tube of Bute (pain reliever and anti-inflammatory) and told me to keep him dosed up and watch him. That is pretty expensive Bute, don't you think?
We have cut his feed down, just in case he is beginning to founder, but I am worried about him he still isn't doing good.
