Luke has been wanting to take the jeep up in the mountains all week. He even made himself an emergency backpack to keep in the jeep, just in case.
He was helpful today with the housework, and he had not only todays school assignments finished, but tomorrows also.
So I let the boy go "jeeping" this afternoon.
When I said Luke could go jeeping I envisioned him driving around on the dirt roads, not finding the biggest mud hole and playing in it! I should have known.
What I didn't realise was that Steve works in Driggs tonight at the Hospital and that means there is only me to save Luke if something went wrong.
Of course something went wrong, Luke and Casey broke down out on the jeep trail!
An older couple found them and helped them get off the dirt road onto the main road. The nice helpful fellow said the jeep is not equipped with the proper stuff to allow it to wallow in the mud and water, that is why it broke down.
I have never towed a car before, so I ended up sending Grant to tow them to the repair shop. I was biting my nails the entire time until they were safely home.
Grant got them safely to the repair shop, what a good boy. When Luke got home the first thing he said was, "That was so much fun! Well, up until we broke down anyway."
Sigh...what is a mom to do? It isn't like he is in trouble, because he didn't do anything wrong. How could he have known that would happen? I certainly didn't know it would.
It is a good thing it took them a while to get home because it gave me time to get over my irritation and worry before I was face to face with him. When we talked about what happened, I calmly emphasised how he is never to take the jeep into the mud and water again!
I gained a few more grey hairs today.
