Yesterday I rolled out of bed, intentionally ignored my disaster of a bedroom, and stumbled down the hall to face yet another hectic day. One of the many things on the docket, was to take Luke to Pocatello for another doctors appointment that afternoon, darn that football! After popping a couple of pieces of bread in the toaster, I begin to fill my watering can. Once it is full, I set myself to the task of hand watering every plant that requires such attention. In the process of watering I notice, the weeds in the garden are getting out of hand and realize, to my dismay, that I must add, "weed garden" to the already endless list of todo's. The hand watering finished, I wolf down the now, cold toast and begin to weed the garden. It is already so blazing hot outside, that I have sweat running down my face and arms. At this point I remember that I have children who could be helping me. In fact I had told Hannah to come help me after she ate her breakfast, but she had not appeared. Wiping sweat out of my eyes I entered the house to find Hannah had showered and was completely ready for Ballroom Dance camp that day. I scolded her for intentionally showering, knowing full well I needed her help in the garden. I gave her the "Mom glare", and told her to work her rump off cleaning inside the house. Grant and I hoed the entire garden, but we ran out of time and would have to hand weed the rest of it the following morning. Grant then drove Hannah and himself to the high school for ballroom dance camp, and I settled into the ugly task of paying the bills. Half way through bill paying I receive this text from Steve: Steve: "Hey my love. Are you there?" Me: "Yes" Steve: "Oh good. I need you to pack an overnight bag and be ready to go at 3:45." (Now at this point I'm confused, and wondering if he has lost his mind.) Me: "For what? Luke's apt is at 3:30, what time should we leave?" Steve: "For my fudn." (fudn=pudding in Steve lingo) Me: "????" Steve: "Happy 25th anniversary to the most beautiful wife in all the world." I had forgotten our anniversary! Am I lame or what!? Come to find out he had been planning a surprise getaway for over a month, even the kids had known about it. He had cancelled Lukes appointment the day I had made it and had been frantically watching my planner to see If I would schedule anything else that might complicate his surprise. Sneaky man! He took me to New York for a night of pampering. Okay, we didn't really go to New York but he had booked a room at Destinations Inn. http://www.destinationsinn.com/accommodations.htm We had a nice quiet getaway. Good Job Papa Bear! When you find a good deal on Craigslist you have to act on it, so instead of packing and getting the family ready for a weekend at the cabin, I spent the morning picking up barn equipment.
A nice older couple in Rigby were getting out of the goat raising business and had decided to sell their equipment. It was a perfect opportunity to get some of the things we wanted. I was able to buy a nice metal milk stand and four kidding pens! That probably doesn't sound exciting to most of you, but it was to me. Better pens means easier setup, and I'm all for easier! This couples goat story was cute. They moved to Rigby from California about ten years ago. The woman decided she wanted to raise and eat goats, so they bought some Boers. I guess when the babies were born they were too cute to eat :). Before they knew it, they had too many goats. The woman ended up going back to work and the husband was left caring for the goats. Anyone who has raised goats, knows its alot of work, and kind of a pain to raise any animal in our harsh weather. Anyway, the husband hesitantly assumed the new responsibility. After multiple losses to the herd, frozen ears and all the other things that can and does go wrong when raising animals, he decided he was finished. He washed his hand of the responsibility, he sold the goats and told her she could pick up her hobby again when she had time to do it herself. Not long afterward, she listed the goat equipment on Craigslist. He asked her why she was selling everything. She told him that she had watched how much work it took for him to care for the goats and had decided she didn't want to do it any more. He didn't complain, although he did rolled his eyes. It was cute. Luke had a follow up doctor's appointment with Esplin today in Pocatello.
Steve couldn't take us so I was on my own. I have been there many times but have never gone by myself. Trish said she would go with me. Instead she ended up driving us there. She is such a sweetie, thank the Lord for good friends who step up and help us wimpy ones! Doc said luke can't do any wakeboarding or skiing for the next five weeks. He was not a happy camper, especially since he just bought some styling, yet extremely expensive swim trunks from the Buckle last week in anticipation of hanging with the guys on the boat. But on the bright side, so far it looks like surgery won't be needed again. His finger has stayed in the same place Doc first set it. After the doctors appointment we went out for lunch to Jimmy Johns, then headed home. Thanks Trish, for driving this directionally challenged girl around! |
