TJ is a 29 year old down syndrome man who hates to have his hair cut and his face shaved.
When we cut his hair it is a huge production. It takes Steve, Luke and Grant to restrain him while I cut his hair. I go as fast as I can without hurting him. He is a big guy and fights us quite a bit.
This time his mom sedated him some. I was actually able to get the cape on him and he didn't struggle as much through the hair cut, but when it got to shaving his mustache and beard he freaked out.
He hates to have his face touched and even in the drugged state he put up quite a fight.
It tears at my heart strings when we do it. How would you like to be held into a chair by three large men while some scary lady shaved your head? I would pitch a fit too.
I hate the fact that when he sees us he starts to panic, knowing what is coming.
I hold back the tears as I shave him, all the while trying to sooth him with gentle words, but to no avail.
This time his family tried to bribe him with popcorn while I cut his hair. Sadly it only gave him something more to spit at me. I felt horrible because he spit in my eyes and I began to gag. I wish I could have been more stoic.
We bought some really nice clippers because the old ones weren't working very well. The new ones were amazing! I was able to move much faster with them.
